1. Cookies and similar technology
A cookie is a small value stored by a website in your browser. Similar technologies include local storage, which can keep information on your device without using a traditional cookie. Consent rules can apply to both, so this policy covers them together.
2. Your choices
On your first visit, the consent panel lets you accept all, reject non-essential technologies or choose categories. Rejecting non-essential technologies does not prevent ordinary browsing. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time; withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful use.
3. What this site uses
| Category | Technology or provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | ttg_cookie_consent first-party cookie | Records the categories you accepted or rejected so the site can respect that choice. | 182 days |
| Strictly necessary when using the contact form | Basin and Cloudflare Turnstile | Submits the form and detects abuse. Turnstile processes browser and device signals and may use security storage where required. | For the submission/security process; provider retention varies |
| Language suggestion | Browser language setting and ttg-language-suggestion-dismissed session storage | Reads the browser’s first preferred language on English pages, offers the equivalent Spanish, German, French or Dutch page when available, and remembers a dismissal within the current browser session. | The language setting is checked only in the browser; the dismissal lasts for the browser session |
| Preferences | ttg-favourites local storage | Stores the places, destinations, airport pages, practical guides, events and articles you save on this device. It is not sent to a Total Travel Guide account. | Until removed, site data is cleared or Preferences consent is withdrawn |
| Strictly necessary | Umami Cloud | Measures aggregate page views, selected form completions, favourite changes and sharing-method selections, including the relevant content title and path. Umami does not set analytics cookies. | No Umami browser cookie; analytics records follow the service retention configuration |
| Interactive maps | MapLibre and OpenFreeMap, using OpenStreetMap data | Displays interactive attraction maps. OpenFreeMap receives the network request needed to supply map tiles and states that it sets no cookies. | No map-provider cookie or local storage |
| External media | YouTube privacy-enhanced embeds, Vimeo, Google Maps, weather services, Avionio and DiscoverCars | Displays video, maps, forecasts, live flight information and car-hire comparisons. Providers may receive IP address, device and interaction data and may set their own cookies or storage. | Set by the provider after consent; duration varies |
| Newsletter feature | Brevo | Processes a newsletter request when you submit the subscription form. | Subscription data is retained until unsubscribe, subject to necessary suppression records |
4. External media remains blocked before consent
The site does not give YouTube, Vimeo, Google Maps, weather, live-flight or car-hire comparison embeds a usable source URL until you accept External Media. YouTube uses its privacy-enhanced youtube-nocookie.com player, but Google may still process data once you choose to load and use it. Keyless OpenFreeMap attraction maps load without this category because the provider states that it does not use cookies or browser storage.
5. Analytics
Umami is a privacy-focused, cookieless analytics service that we use as essential aggregate measurement, so it is not controlled by the optional categories in Cookie Settings. The tracker respects the browser’s Do Not Track signal. Form events are recorded only after the relevant form reports a successful completion; form contents are not included in those events. Favourite events record the item identifier, title, path, type, source page and saved or removed action. Share events record the content title and path, source page and method selected. They do not expose a visitor’s complete favourites list, share recipient or message contents.
6. Browser controls
Browser settings can delete or block cookies and site storage. Blocking the strictly necessary consent cookie means the panel may ask for your choice again. Clearing local storage removes saved favourites. A browser Do Not Track signal prevents the Umami tracker from collecting measurements. Browser controls do not replace the on-site settings for optional services already enabled during the current visit.
7. Updates and contact
We will update this policy if the technologies or purposes change. Questions can be sent to hello at totaltravel.guide or through the contact page. See the Privacy Policy for broader information about personal data and your rights.
